Minister Dean Macpherson release findings of investigations into recent fatal building collapses, 20 Aug

The Minister of Public Works & Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, will tomorrow, Thursday, 20 August 2026, release the findings of four investigations undertaken by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) into a series of recent building and construction collapses across South Africa. 

The Minister will be joined by CBE Chairperson Amelia Mtshali and CBE Chief Executive Officer Dr Msizi Myeza, who will provide further context on the investigations and the detailed findings arising from the individual incidents.

The investigations follow serious incidents at Redcliffe in Verulam, eThekwini; Doornkop in Soweto; Ormonde in Johannesburg; and the Magnolia Development in Sea Point, Cape Town. Across the four incidents, 17 people lost their lives, and 24 people were injured.
