Legislative Democrats to host Capitol Conversation on public education

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate and House Democrats continue their Capitol Conversations series this coming Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m., in room 535 of the state Capitol. Sen. Carri Hicks said people of all ages and political interests are welcome to participate in a discussion about public education.

“At Tuesday’s Capitol Conversation, we want to hear your views, concerns, and ideas about our public schools and our goal of providing all children access to an excellent education. The future of our state is directly tied to the success of our schools, so this issue is important to all Oklahomans, not just those with children in school,” said Hicks, D-Oklahoma City. “I hope all who are able to attend will make plans to join us for this important discussion.”

Members of the public will be invited to sign up to comment when they arrive. The first 30 people who sign up will be given two minutes each to speak, and groups are encouraged to select a few members to speak on their behalf.

“Every year new education policies are introduced, which is why it’s important to have open discussions between legislators and communities most impacted by these policies,” said Rep. Ellen Pogemiller, D-Oklahoma City. “I’m eager to discuss and listen to Oklahomans about a topic as crucial as education so we can continue to work toward solutions that help bolster the future of public education in Oklahoma.”

This is the second year for this well-attended series, and Tuesday’s event is the first Capitol Conversation of the fall with more planned in the coming months.
